Prevent Acid Reflux - Stop It Before It Starts

In order to prevent acid reflux you need to address the main causes of reflux. If you don't know what those are, here's a quick rundown.

  • Dietary - Foods you eat and beverages you drink

  • Lifestyle - Bad habits and destructive vices

  • Medicines - Medications and medical conditions

Acid reflux CAN be prevented but not by taking some magic pill. It will involve making changes in some or all of the above areas. Some changes will be easy to make. Some will take some real will-power. But, believe me, taking action now to prevent acid reflux will help you avoid the immediate discomfort and long-term damage that acid reflux can cause.

Acid Reflux Remedies - Are They REALLY?

Most people think that what's currently being advertised and what's currently sitting on the shelves is all that's available when it comes to acid reflux remedies. But I can tell you that's not the case!

Those are the traditional, orthodox solutions for treating acid reflux symptoms. But are they 'remedies'? Only if you think busting your TV to turn it off when the remote doesn't work is a remedy. Let me explain.

Traditional acid reflux medicines cause a mal-function of your acid producing system in order to reduce or eliminate the acid in your stomach. That way, when you have a reflux attack, you don't get heartburn or a burning throat because there's no acid in the bile. That's great for relieving the symptoms, but the root problem isn't your acid production, it's your sphincter, which, when working normally, keeps bile from coming back into the esophagus. Reducing acid production does very little towards correcting the problem with the sphincter. Instead you now have TWO malfunctions in your system, the sphincter AND the acid producers. What you REALLY want to do is let the acid-producers do their normal thing, and focus on healing the sphincter so IT can do IT'S normal thing. When both are working normally, you won't have acid reflux events, nor acid reflux disease.

There are natural acid reflux remedies that you can use to stop the symptoms of acid reflux AND bring about a complete healing of the upper stomach, sphincter and throat, without the need for medications.

So you've been wondering "what is reflux?" It's really pretty simple.

Acid reflux is the condition when acid from the stomach flows back up the esophagus. This creates a sharp pain in the chest area known as 'heartburn'. Many people have heartburn and just live with it, downing Tums and Rolaids or whatever.

But some people have a more serious version of acid reflux, where the acid doesn't just stay in the esophagus, but comes all the way up into the throat and mouth. It's usually at this point that people decide to go see a doctor, since now they are experiencing raw burning in the throat and some pretty awful tasting stuff.

The Causes of Reflux Broken Down For You

You can divide up the causes of reflux into three major categories.
  • Dietary
  • Lifestyle
  • Medical

Dietary causes are, of course, those things that you eat or drink that contribute to acid reflux. Spicy foods, acidic foods, fatty foods, caffeine, carbonated drinks, citrus drinks are some.

Lifestyle causes are things you do habitually that can lead to acid reflux. Being overweight, smoking, stuffing yourself, wearing tight clothes are some lifestyle causes of reflux.

Medical causes refers to medicines that you take or medical conditions. Muscle relaxers, pain relievers, steroids, high blood pressure meds are some medicines in this category. Hiatal hernia and pregnancy are both medical conditions that create or aggravate acid reflux.
